Ute Teams Fare Well in NCAA APR

May 14, 2014

The NCAA announced its multi-year Academic Performance Report (APR) for NCAA Division I schools today and the University of Utah was again near the top of the Pac-12 for APR success.

The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation of all student-athletes on scholarship, and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.

The latest multi-year APR calculations include scores from 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13. The average for Utah's teams was 980--falling just short of the previous record of 981 established last year and easily exceeding the NCAA minimum requirement of 930.

Football achieved a single-year team record APR of 985, which elevated its multi-year APR to 970, also a team record. For the second-straight year, football's multi-year APR ranks third in the Pac-12 Conference, while gymnastics (996), baseball (988), men's golf (987) and men's tennis (990) also have multi-year scores that rank in the top third of the league for their sports.

The men's basketball team was one of eight Utah sports to achieve a perfect 1000 single-year APR in 2012-13. The others were men's golf, men's skiing, men's tennis, women's skiing, women's soccer, women's tennis and volleyball.

Eight Utah teams improved their multi-year scores from a year ago. Making gains were soccer (+10), women's tennis (+7), football (+5), baseball (+5), volleyball (+5), men's skiing (+1), softball (+1) and women's swimming (+1).
