SALT LAKE CITY—The Utah gymnastics team has added Maryland transfer Macey Roberts to its 2016-17 roster, co-head coach
Tom Farden announced today. Roberts, a sophomore, is eligible to compete immediately. She replaces
Samantha Partyka, who announced she was retiring from the sport three weeks ago.
Â
Roberts started on vault and floor for the Terrapins as a freshman in 2016 and qualified into the NCAA Regionals as an individual on floor. She had season bests of 9.90 on floor and 9.825 on vault and posted nine scores of 9.80 or better on floor.
Â
Roberts is only the second transfer gymnast for Utah and the first since the 1970s. "It is very rare that we bring in a transfer gymnast, but Macey has the potential to make an immediate impact, so we are excited to have her join our team," said Farden.
Â
A native of McDonald, Tenn., Roberts competed for Adam and Emily Byrd at the Gymnastics Center of Chattanooga before signing with Maryland.
Â
She will join the team when school starts in August.
