Utah Softball welcomes Arizona to town for a three-game series. The Utes have an action packed weekend with a number of events planned like the annual Bark in the Park on Saturday
UTAH NOTES
- Utah moved up one spot to No. 14 in the latest NFCA/USA Today national rankings.
- Utah was No. 11 in the NFCA/USA Today poll on 3/21. It was the highest ranking in program history.
- Utah ranks 12th nationally with a team batting average of .332. It also places 14th in scoring (6.3 runs per game) and 21st in on-base percentage (.408)
- Hannah Flippen has surpassed the 200-hit and 100-RBI plateaus for her career. She recently set a new Utah mark for runs scored during her career, previously held by Sandy Rhea (177, 1995-98).
- Flippen currently sits second in batting average (.446) and runs batted in (36) among Pac-12 players. She is also third in on-base percentage (.525), fourth in slugging percentage (.782), seventh in runs scored (32) and doubles (9).
- Anissa Urtez recently surpassed 200 hits for her career and is currently tied with Flippen (.446 BA, 112 hits) in a pair of hitting categories.
- She also ranks 10th in the league in on-base percentage (.482). With 39 doubles, she is two shy of moving into the top-five all-time at Utah
- Delilah Pacheco has done a fantastic job in the leadoff spot, ranking fifth in the Pac-12 in walks (19). In Pac-12 play she is sixth with a  .485 on-base percentageÂ
- Ally Dickman is batting .435 in Pac-12 play (3rd) and has a .480 on-base percentage (7th)
- Kay Kay Fronda has only started two of the games during this five-game winning streak but is hitting .400 with four runs scored and five driven in.Â
- During that same span, Kelly Martinez leads the team with eight runs driven in and has a .769 slugging percentage. This season, she leads the Pac-12 with nine base runners thrown out
 - With 34 runs batted in, Heather Bowen ranks sixth in the Pac-12. She has driven in seven the past two weekends, second-most on the team.
- Utah currently ranks 19th in the nation with a combined team ERA of 1.71. All three pitchers rank among the top 11 in the Pac-12 in ERA
- Katie Donovan has 13 wins to give her 50 for her career. She ranks seventh in the Pac-12 in strikeouts, recently surpassing 300 K's for her career, and has also notched two saves
- Defensively, Utah leads the league in double plays turned with 17. The Utes were second in the nation last season with 41.
- The Utes are one of seven Pac-12 teams ranked among the top 25 nationally in the RPI, moving up two spots to No. 18
VIRAMONTES NAMED PAC-12 PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Utah's Miranda Viramontes was named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week by the conference office on Mar. 21.
Viramontes won two of three games as Utah swept No. 10 UCLA on its home field, (2-0, 0.64 ERA). She limited the Bruins to one run on nine hits in 11 innings, striking out six and walking none.Â
She is 10-1 with a 1.25 ERA, sixth-best in the Pac-12, and recently notched the 200th strikeout of her career. She also ranks third nationally in walks per seven innings (6 in 67 1/3 IP).
Viramontes threw a perfect game vs. CSU Bakersfield and has a propensity for winning big contests, turning in complete game victories this season over No. 13 Tennessee and No. 10 UCLA.
In last year's NCAA Tournament, she set the tone with 6 2/3 scoreless innings against Illinois, striking out six batters then had a career-high nine strikeouts in a complete game vs. No. 9 Kentucky. She also picked up her second save of the season when she closed the door on the ninth-ranked Wildcats.
A honorable mention All Pac-12 pick in 2015, she was named to the All-Freshman Team after being named Freshman of the Week once.
LAST WEEKEND
Utah took a pair of games vs. No. 21 Cal before the finale was snowed out. Heather Bowen drove in the deciding run during a 7-6 opener and the Utes slammed four homers in a 12-2 shortened contest on Saturday.
Miranda Viramontes won both games, entering the first in relief, and finished with a 0.91 ERA.
Hannah Flippen and Anissa Urtez were a combined 7-for-9 with six runs scored and five driven in. Kelly Martinez also hit a pair of homers and drove in five runs to pace the Utes.
BARRERAÂ NAMED PAC-12 FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Utah outfielder Alyssa Barrera was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week on Feb. 28 for her performances on the field at the Mary Nutter Classic.
The Chino Hills, California native led the team with four runs scored, a .438 batting average and also slugged .563. She reached base safely in her first 13 games and opened her collegiate career with an 11-game hit streak.Â
She currently ranks fourth in the Pac-12 and leads the Utes with 36 runs scored and along with teammate Ally Dickman is one of the two toughest players in the conference to strikeout.Â
FLIPPEN PEGGED AS SENIOR CLASS AWARD CANDIDATE
Hannah Flippen was named as a candidate for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate softball. Thirty of the top NCAA softball student-athletes who excel both on and off the field were selected earlier this season.
 Last season, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association named Flippen an All-American. The Ute second baseman was also named the 2016 Pac-12 Player of the Year and tabbed as an Academic All-America First Team selection by CoSIDA.
Prior to the start of this season, Flippen was named to the USA Softball Player of the Year Watch List and also earned a spot on the US National Team.
