Annelies Cook finished in the top 10 of the first race at the UAA Invitational.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Annelies Cook and Didrik Smith led Utah skiers on the first day of the Alaska-Anchorage Invitational with 10th-place finishes in their respective freestyle races, held at Kincaid Park.
Utah is tied for fifth with 105 points after the first day of competition.
The Nordic women placed three in the top 15 of the 5-km skate to garner 56 points. Behind Cook (who finished in 16:32.3), Sara Schweiger placed 13th in 16:37.0 while Tyler Parker was 15th in 16:41.6. Rounding out the Utah finishers was Devon Spika, who placed 25th with a time of 17:50.2, and Ingvild Flatland in 29th in 18:08.2.
On the men's side, Smith, in the first race of his Utah career, finished the 10-km freestyle in 27:15.4. Even Sletten crossed the line 18th with a time of 28:10.7. The final men's point scorer was Ben Fick, coming in 21st in 28:22.0. The men's team came away with 49 points on the day.
The UAA Invitational continues tomorrow (Jan. 6) with the 5 and 10-km classical races.
