RED RIVER, N.M. - Sophomore Ana Kobal turned in a third-place finish in the slalom Saturday at the New Mexico Invitational to help the University of Utah ski team to second place in the overall meet standings at the Red River Ski Area.

The Utes are currently in second place in the meet rankings with 646 points, while Colorado leads the way by 17 points over Utah. The Utes earned 110 points with two competitors among the top four to take second among the women's slalom teams on the day, while Utah's men's slalom crew earned 79 points.

Ana Kobal recorded a third-place effort to lead the Utes. She has been on the podium three times this season for the Utes, while recording six top-five efforts.

Kristiina Rove followed Kobal immediately in fourth place as she tied her best finish of this season. Kobal posted the second-fastest run of the day on her second attempt, after registering a time of 49.0. The Espoo, Finland native has finished fifth or better three times in 2013 and has also been in the top 10 in six competitions this year. Junior Jaime Dupratt finished 17th.

On the men's side, Eian Sandvik finished 15th, while freshman Andy Trow followed immediately in 16th. Jeremy Elliot rounded out the Ute scoring effort after finishing in 24th. Tim Hribar finished 27th.

The Utah Alpine crew wraps up New Mexico Invitational action on Sunday in Red River, while the RMISA/NCAA West Region Championships will be held Feb. 22-24 in Bozeman, Mont.
