BOZEMAN, Mont. - Senior Tii-Maria Romar and sophomore Julie Bordeau took the top two spots in the women's race as the University of Utah ski team competed Thursday in the Rock Mountain Intercollegiate Skiing Association's Giant Slalom Qualifier at the Bridger Bowl in Bozeman, Mont.
With no team scores being tallied, the Utes posted four top-10 finishes.
Romar earned her third victory this season in the women's giant slalom qualifier and she has won five events over her career. She has finished on the podium six times in 2012 and 11 times over her career. She had a solid performance throughout the day, as she posted the fastest first-run time and the second-fastest time during the second run.
Bordeau followed in second place and finished as the runner-up for the second time this year and has been on the podium six times this season.
Freshman Tim Hribar posted Utah's highest finish for the day on the men's side with an eighth-place effort, which was his best finish of the year. The Ljubljana, Slovenia native has finished among the top 10 three times this season.
Senior Ryan Wilson followed Hribar immediately in ninth place, for his eighth top-10 finish and the 17th of his career.
Senior Torjus Krogdahl was the third Ute to score with a 15th-place effort, which was his seventh top-20 effort in 2012 and the 27th over his career.
The NCAA West Region/RMISA Championships begin with the Alpine disciplines as the Giant Slalom races will be held Friday at the Bridger Bowl, starting at 10 a.m. The slalom event will be ran on Saturday at 10 a.m. At the Bohart Ranch, the Nordic portion of the meet begins Friday with the 5/10km freestyle races at 9:30 a.m., while the classic races begin Saturday at 9 a.m.
