SALT LAKE CITY - After finishing second in all four meets this season, the University of Utah ski team took home the 2011 Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association regular-season championship, awarded at the annual RMISA Championships banquet Friday night on the fourth floor of Rice-Eccles Stadium.
Maria Graefnings was named the women's nordic MVP after winning seven of the eight regular season races, including sweeps at the Montana State, Utah and New Mexico Invitationals. Graefnings won the freestyle race at Denver and took fifth in the classical race there.
Utah also claimed the RMISA Women's championship as well as the women's alpine and nordic titles.
Teams are half way through the RMISA Championships Friday as it is scheduled to finish up with the women's giant slalom, the men's slalom and the Nordic classic races on Saturday. Immediately following the meet, the teams will determine who has how many spots to fill for the NCAA Championships, set for March 9-12 in Stowe, Vt.
