University of Utah to Host 2000 NCAA Skiing Championships

May 13, 1998

SALT LAKE CITY - The NCAA Men's and Women's Skiing Committee has selected the University of Utah to host the 2000 NCAA Men's and Women's Skiing Championships. The competition will be conducted March 8-11.

The alpine and cross country events are scheduled to take place at the same venues that will be used for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, which made the University of Utah the ideal host. Park City Mountain Resort will be the site for the alpine events with the Giant Slalom on C.B.'s run and the slalom on Clementine. The site for the Cross Country events will be the Olympic Biathlon & Cross Country Area at Soldier Hollow, located in Wasatch Park near Heber City, Utah.

"It's exciting for the University of Utah and the surrounding community to host such a prestigious event," says U. Ski Director Pat Miller. "The use of the Olympic venues will undoubtedly be a memorable experience for all of the student-athletes involved."

The University of Utah has hosted the NCAA Skiing Championships four previous times. Most recently, the U. hosted the event at Park City Mountain Resort (alpine) and Jeremy Ranch (cross country) in 1991.
