Freshman Kristian Kron wins two individual events

USAFA, Colo. – Ute divers took the top four spots in both events this evening to boost the University of Utah men’s swimming & diving team past the Air Force Falcons on Friday in USAFA, Colo., 136-103.

Josiah Purss led the diving effort, executing a sweep with 371.48 points in the 3-meter and 365.55 points in the 1-meter.

Following Purss in the 3-meter was Nelson Foo in second (341.85), Jacob Crayne in third (323.40) and Brandon Stoppelmoor in fourth (294.31).

Crayne grabbed second place in the 1-meter (344.33) with Caleb Herrick close behind in third (317.18) and Stoppelmoor in fourth (308.85).

Bence Kira’ly, Kristian Kron and Nick Soedel collected two individual wins apiece. Kira’ly earned medals in the 200 IM (1:53.54) and the 500 free (4:35.26), while Kron topped the 100 back (49.79) and the 200 free (1:41.64). Soedel touched in first in the 100 free (20.35) and the 100 back (49.79).

Alex Fernandes collected a win for the Utes in the 100 fly (50.24) with David Fraser close behind in second (51.16).

Bjorn Gunnarsson earned a second-place finish for the Utes in the 50 free (21.26), as did Ian Clarke in the 200 IM (1:57.23) and Ryan Hansen in the 1000 free (9:52.32).

Kron, Kira’ly, Fernandes and Gunnarsson teamed up for the win in the 200 medley relay (1:31.40), while Soedel, Gunnarsson, Fernandes and Jonas Holmstrom secured the win in the 200 free (1:22.90).



The Ute women will compete next for Utah Swimming and Diving, taking on Washington State in Pullman on Feb.15 at 5 p.m. PT.
