Kersten Merry set a new school record in platform dives.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- Kersten Merry set a school record in platform diving to lead the Utes on the final day of the NCAA Zone Diving Championships.
Merry and Josiah Purss took two of the 16 (eight for each gender) spots up for grabs for the NCAA Championships. Both qualified with their performances in Friday’s event, with
Purss finishing fourth on the one-meter and Merry finishing fourth in the three-meter. Merry is competing in her first NCAA Championship while Purss will be making his second appearance at the NCAA Championships, where he broke the school record platform score last year.
Merry took third on the podium for platform dives with a total score of 546.25. Her final round score of 288.85 is a new school record in platform diving, breaking the old record of 285.95 set by Kelsey Patterson in 2006.. Also reaching the finals in the dives was Amanda Casillas in 10th (460.74). Haley Blount finished in 20th (216.65).
For the men, Purss took 12th in the platform dives with a total score of 539.40.
Merry will be joined by Stina Colleou, Traycie Swartz, Nicole Ligeza, Sami Zuch, Amanda Barrett, Maryssa McArthur, Petra Soininen and Giuliana Gigliotti at the women’s NCAA Championships which will begin on March 20-22 in Minneapolis.
