SALT LAKE CITY - Both the men's and women's Utah swimming and diving team fell to UNLV on Saturday afternoon. The Ute men lost by a score of 168-125 while the women lost 159-136 to the Rebels.

Garret Beaman won the 100 back with a time of 52.00, winning by 1.18 seconds. George Evans added a victory in the 100 free, finishing in 46.46. The 400 free relay team of Tanner Folster, Evans, Marco Ferraro and Beaman won by .03 seconds. They finished with a time of 3:06.37; marking the first outright relay win for the men on the season. Ferraro placed second in the 200 free (1:42.36) and teammate Thomas Ekstrom placed third in the event with a time of 1:42.83.

Freshman Natalie Edge had another big night winning the 50 free in a time of 24.40, she also placed second in the 100 free (52.61). Jennifer Fredsall placed first in the 100 fly after swimming a time of 57.83. Diver Kwan Ling Yu won both diving events. She won the one-meter diving with a score of 235.20 and the three-meter diving with 257.70 points. Caitlin Tidwell set a career best time in the 100 breast and placed third with her time of 1:06.91.

"We went up against one of the best teams in the conference and swam great," comments head coach Greg Winslow. "This shows us what we need to work on and where we need to be come conference championship time. We competed well but just lost a lot of close touches today. I'm proud of our team and we're headed in the right direction."

 

 

The Utah men fell to 0-3 (0-1 MWC) on the season while the women are 1-3 (1-1 MWC). Next up for Utah's women will be Boise State and San Diego State in Salt Lake City on Saturday, November 17. The Ute men will not compete again until the UNLV Invitational in December.
