SALT LAKE CITY - Ellis Walters, Kwan Ling Yu, Nelson Foo, and Brandon Stoppelmoor of the University of Utah diving team will compete at the NCAA Zone E Regional Championship March 11 - 13. Air Force will host the meet at the Minnesota Aquatics Center in Minneapolis.

"I'm really impressed with what Richard has done with the divers this year as all of them are performing lifetime-best dives," said head coach Greg Winslow. "I can't say enough of what he's done with the program in such a short time.

"It's a good opportunity to gauge where we are going to be next year since a lot of Pac-10 schools will be there," stated first-year Utah diving coach Richard Marschner. "The best of the Mountain West Conference and the WAC will be there as well."

These four Utes also represented Utah at the 2010 NCAA Zone E Regional Championship last season where Foo placed 14th overall in the 1-meter dive with a final score of 575.45. Stoppelmoor's best performance of 203.90 points in the platform dive earned him 18th place.

As for the women last year the NCAA regional, Yu's best performance was in the platform dive where she earned 14th place overall (197.03) while Walters earned 33rd in the 1-meter dive with a final score of 221.25.

"Ellis had shoulder surgery at the end of last season so she isn't able to perform her full list yet, but here she is, placing really high at the conference meet and getting ready to go to this," said Winslow. "We're expecting even better things for her next year. We're excited about where she is."

At the 2011 MWC Championships, Yu earned the MWC title in the platform dive for the second year in a row with a finals score of 239.95. Walters led the Ute women in the 1-meter dive, earning third place with a score of 293.05.

Foo's best performance at the 2011 MWC Championships was when he earned the silver medal in the platform dive (297.20). In the same dive, Stoppelmoor earned 249.55 points to earn eighth, the highest he placed at championships.

"I would say both Nelson and `Queenie' have an outside shot of making it to the NCAA's if they dive really well," said Marschner. "Nelson has a shot if he makes top three in the platform dive which is feasible if he has a good meet."

"I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do at the NCAA Zone Diving Regional," Winslow stated. "Obviously, the goal is to make it to the NCAA's which would be amazing for us."

The NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will take place in Austin, Texas on March 17 -19 where Hannah Caron will be representing Utah along with any Ute woman diver who advances out of the regional competition this week.
