Traycie Swartz to compete in three events at NCAA Championships

Utah sophomore Traycie Swartz heads to Auburn, Ala. to compete in the NCAA Women’s Championships at James E. Martin Aquatics Center Thursday through Saturday.  Swartz is the only Ute to grab a spot in the NCAA Championships for the 2011-12 season.

Swartz will be competing in the 50 free, the 100 free and the 100 fly.  She is ranked 21st in the country in the 100 free, 22nd in the 50 free and 32nd in the 100 back and holds school records in all three events.

Last Week

After three days of competition, the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships came to a close Saturday in USAFA, Colo.

Coming off a fourth-place finish in the 1-meter at the Pac-12 Championships, Ellis Walters scored 533.50 points off 12 dives to place seventh. In the 3-meter, Walters captured 32nd with 240.05 points.



Jasmine Matkovic pulled off the third-highest placement by a freshman in the 1-meter dive as she took 25th out of a field of 46 divers.

Nelson Foo earned 10th in the 3-meter preliminaries with 337.05 points. He improved his score from last year by over 57 points, totaling 667.40 through the final round to take 10th. 

Missing 18th by 1.7 points, Brandon Stoppelmoor placed 19th on the 3-meter board, just missing the finals. In the 1-meter, Stoppelmoor earned 263.95 points to place him 23rd. 

Next Time Out

This marks the close of Utah Swimming and Diving’s 2011-2012 season. Ute men finished fifth in the conference in their inaugural Pac-12 season, while breaking nine school records along the way.  The women finished seventh in conference, while also breaking three school records.
