SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah men's swim team will send Bence Kiraly, Kristian Kron and Nick Soedel to the 2014 NCAA Championships, held March 27-29 in Austin, Texas. Utah is also eligible to compete in four relays at the NCAA Championships - the 200 free, 400 free, 800 free and 400 medley relay.
Soedel will be competing individually in the 50 free and 100 free. Soedel won the Pac-12 title in the 100 free, and currently has the third-fastest time in the country in the event (41.97). He has the 18th-fastest time in the NCAA in the 50 free (19.36).
Kiraly, who will be competing in the 1,650 free, is also coming off a Pac-12 championship in the event. He has the 20th-fastest time in the NCAA (14:58.37). Kron will be competing in the 200 back with the nation's 30th-fastest time in the event (1:42.41).
Utah has the 17th-fastest time in the country in the 800 free relay, with the time of 6:21.15 done by Kiraly, Soedel, Karl Holmstrom and Kron. The Utes have the 20th-fastest time in the NCAA in the 400 free relay. The third-place Pac-12 team of Soedel, Alex Fernandes, Holmstrom and Ken Tiltges swam a time of 2:53.41. The 200 free relay team of Soedel, Fernandes, Karson Applin and Tiltges has a season-best time of 1:18.59, which is 26th in the nation. The 400 medley relay team of Kron, Fernandes, Tiltges and Soedel have the 38th-fastest time in the NCAA in 3:11.87.
Men's and women's diving selections will be selected following the Zone E Championships, hosted by Air Force beginning on Thursday, March 13.
