Senior Hannah Caron of the University of Utah swimming & diving team has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII Women's At-Large First Team for the second consecutive year, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced.
Caron graduated with a degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences and carried a 3.99 cumulative GPA during her undergraduate studies.
During her career, Caron was selected by her teammates as a co-captain and honored as a 2012 Pac-12 All-Academic First-Team selection. She was also a three-time Mountain West Conference Scholar Athlete and Academic All-MWC Spring Team recipient.
In the pool, Caron ended her Ute career as the school-record holder in 200 IM and all four relays. In Utah's first-ever Pac-12 Conference Championships appearance, Caron was a part of the seventh-place 400 free and 200 medley relays in addition to placing 13th in the 200 IM and finishing 18th in 100 fly and 20th in the 200 fly.
In the 2010-11 season, Caron earned a spot on the All-MWC Team in three different races before qualifying for the 2011 NCAA Championships in the 200 IM, 100 fly, and 200 fly events. The Raleigh, N.C., native swam what was then the second-fastest 100 fly time of her career (53.49) to place 30th. In the 200 fly, she took 29th with a personal-best time of 1:57.98, which was the second-fastest time in school history.
Caron is now eligible for Academic All-American honors, which will be released later this month.
Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, a 2,000-member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
