THIS WEEK:

The Utes swimming and diving teams travel to Provo, Utah, to swim against Brigham Young. Utah men and women will compete on Friday, Nov. 1 at 6:00 p.m. (MT).

UTE NOTES:

Utah had several key performances against UC Irvine and San Diego State last week. Jonathon Larson was a four-event winner and set a meet record in the 100 free against UC Irvine. Cody Rempfer also won four-events and set a meet record in the 100 fly. On the women's side Neringa Statkeviciute was a four-event winner against both UC Irvine and San Diego State, and Kristen Kaiser won three events at San Diego State.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION:

BYU is the defending men's and women's conference champions. The Cougars were picked preseason number-one in the coaches poll for the Mountain West Conference in both men's and women's swimming. The Cougars are coming off a meet at the Pacific Invitational where they finished second in the men's and third in the women's events. In the two meetings between Utah and BYU last year the Cougars swept the Utes.

REVIEWING LAST WEEK:

The Utah men started off 1-0 with a win last week over UC Irvine (168-130), in which the men took 12 of 16 events. They will begin conference play against BYU. As for the women, they beat UC Irvine on Friday (165.5-132), winning 11 of 16 events, and followed that by winning their first conference meet on Saturday against San Diego State (173-113), taking 15 of 16 events.

QUOTING HEAD COACH MICHAEL LITZINGER:

"This is what it is all about, playing against the defending conference champions. The team is improving and this is a good opportunity to see where we stand"
