Traycie Swartz touched in first in 200 free (1:43.97)

SALT LAKE CITY- Coming off wins against Boise State and Colorado Mesa University, the Utah swimming and diving team welcomes the UNLV Rebels to the Ute Natatorium at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8.
For the Fans- University of Utah swimming and diving will be having its annual campus belly flop contest during this meet. The winner will receive a trophy and $50 cash. Judging the competition are student body president Sam Ortiz, Utah head Diving Coach Richard Marschner and Utah gymnast Lia Del Priore. The first 75 University of Utah students in attendance will receive a free Utah Swim & Dive tank top with a valid U-ID. Admission is free. There will be free parking will be in the North HPER parking lots.
Quoting Head Coach Joe Dykstra - “We are excited to welcome a very good UNLV squad up to Salt Lake City. We have been training very well and it is a great opportunity to measure ourselves against a top program. The Rebels have some amazing swimmers and one of the top men’s medley relays in the country, so this will present us with a great challenge.”
Last Time Out- The men picked up a win against Mesa State (187-107) and the women beat Boise State (188-112) last week. Taking wins on the men’s side were Andy Cunningham in the 1000 free (9:40.68) and Nick Soedel in the 200 free (1:39.35). Soedel, Kyle Owens, Karson Applin, and Bence Kiraly defeated their competition in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.06. On the women’s side, Traycie Swartz, Stina Colleou, Petra Soininen and Giuliana Gigliotti took first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:43.97). Sami Zuch took first in the 1000 free (10:20) while Amanda Barrett took first in the 200 back (2:02.16). The diving team went 3-4 in their events.
Scouting the Opposition- Last week, the UNLV men’s team defeated Toronto in exhibition (177-85) while the women came up short (139-123).
The Rebel men hold the top times in 12 of 16 events in the Mountain West Conference. They also are ranked #18 in the nation this week by CollegeSwimming.com. The Rebel men also have many swimmers who are ranked top 25 in the nation. The women have two All-Americans in Rachel Dixon (50 Free) and Katelyne Herrington (100 Fly) swimming at this meet.
Last Time Against UNLV - The Utah women defeated the Rebels (167-126), while the men fell short by just a 3-point margin to UNLV (149-146), last season on November 10, 2012.
Next Time Out - The Utes travel to Columbia, Missouri to compete in the Missouri Invitational on November 21-23.
