This Week

The University of Utah men's and women's diving team will compete in the Wildcat Diving Invitational that will be held at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Ariz., Friday through Sunday.

Last Week

Air Force

The Utes swam in three different meets in three days last weekend, showing well at each.

Thursday night, the men's team faced Air Force for the second time this season and just squeaked out a win 152-148. The Ute men won the final four events of the meet and out-scored the Falcons 50-24 in those events to pull off the victory.

Notable performance include, Nick Soedel winning the 50 free (20.77) and the 100 free (45.98) while Austin Fiascone won the 100 back (51.83). Major Robinson took the top spot in the 200 back (1:53.98) and Eric Murray won the 200 IM (1:58.76).

Both men's relay teams finished in first.

Brandon Stoppelmoor had a night to remember as he set a new personal record in the 1-meter dive with 319.28 points.

Colorado School of Mines

The men and women's teams reunited at CSM Natatorium Friday night to face the Ore Diggers. The Utes were fantastic all around as the women broke six pool records and the men won four events. The Utes won the meet 103-86 on the women's side and 109-88 for the men.

Traycie Swartz signed her name in the record books by recording a 4:37.40 time in the 400 IM, while Melissa Paakh grabbed a hold of the 100 fly record (57.65). Hannah Caron won the 100 back (58.70) for the top time and LeighAnne Oliver earned her place for her performance in the 100 free (55.18). Samantha Zuch rounds out the individual pool records with her 24.19 time in the 50 fly.

 

 

Danielle Caldwell, Oliver, Kayla Buck and Valerie McMullan teamed up for the 400 IM medley relay win and pool record (4:03.52).

Karson Applin won the 100 back (53.42) for the men as Eric Murray did the same in the 100 fly (52.41). Ken Titges won the 50 free (21.47) and Ryan Hansen topped the 500 free (4:50.32).

Both the Utah men's and women's 200 free relay teams finished in first.

Seattle and Denver

On Saturday, the Utah men beat Seattle University 153-68 while the women topped Colorado School of Mines 192-50 and Seattle University 151-83. Denver came out with the win against both Ute teams, the men 133.50-96.50 and the women 142.50-99.50.

Together, Swartz, Ligeza, Caron and Zuch won the 200 IM (1:44.48).

Zuch also took home two individuals wins in the 500 free (5:06.32) and the 200 free (1:52.84). Caron had one individual win in the 200 IM (2:07.17).

Swartz contributed two wins in the 100 free (51.51) and the 50 free (23.65).

Soedel set a new personal record in the 50 free with a time of 20.35 while also winning the 100 free and contributing to the 400 free relay (3:02.83) along with Tiltges, Bjorn Gunnarsson and Andy Lamb.

Diver Caleb Herrick achieved a big milestone by grabbing his first-ever collegiate win in the 1-meter with 300.80 points and made his first NCAA Zone qualifying score.
