SALT LAKE CITY - After a big performance last weekend at the Purdue Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind., the Utah men's swimming and diving team now claims No. 25 in CollegeSwimming.com's Endless Pools NCAA rankings.

The Utah record books were rewritten by Ute underclassmen as one school record was broken and six other swims ranked in the top-10 all-time on the men's side. Four NCAA `B' cut times were also earned.

Freshman Bence Kira'ly toppled Shawn Rowland's 24-year-old 500 free school record with a time of 4:23.22, earning an NCAA `B' cut time and winning the event.

Kira'ly scored another NCAA `B' cut time and the second-fastest Utah time in the 400 IM, touching in 3:52.30 and landing in third. He also took second in the 200 fly and earned the fourth-fastest time in school history (1:48.23).

Kristian Kron, also a freshman, earned and NCAA `B' cut time in the 200 back with a time of 1:45.55 for second all-time in school history and second place. He added two fourth-place finishes in the 400 IM (3:55.16) and the 100 back (49.65), recording fourth and eighth all-time.

Alex Fernandes took fifth in the 100 fly, with a time of 49.16 for 10th all-time in school history.

Currently second all-time in the 50 free, Nick Soedel touched in a time of 20.03 for third place and an NCAA `B' cut time.

So far this season, the Utah men are 2-1 in dual meets, while also placing third out of seven teams at the Purdue Invitational, falling short to only No. 2 Louisville and No. 10 Purdue.

The Utes have a challenging schedule to look forward to as they head into the second half of the season. The men will see No. 23 BYU and Arizona State in the upcoming weeks.
