Boise, Idaho- In the first day at the Boise State Bronco Open, the University of Utah women's track and field team earned two event titles. Susannah Hurst finished first in the 3000m race, while Klaudia Rokossa won the pole vault.
"Overall we had a solid start today," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "We have a lot of improvements and made some progress. Tonight we broke the ice and are excited for tomorrow. I expect great things tomorrow from our athletes."
In her first collegiate race, Hurst controlled the 3000m event from start to finish. Hurst posted a time of 9:59.51 to finish first place. AuraLea Fain was the second Ute to cross the line and sixth overall with a time of 10:34.23. Katelyn Stringfellow earned ninth place with a time of 10:50.58.
Rokossa dominated the pole vault posting a mark of 12-7.50. Rokossa's performance was two inches shy of her lifetime-best jump.
The Utes return to action on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Jackson Indoor Track.
