OGDEN, Utah- Freshman Alissa Atisme set a new school-record in the 55-meter dash as the Utes wrapped up action at the Weber State Open. The Utah throwers dominated the meet, with four athletes finishing in the top ten in their final meet before the MPSF Championships.
"We got exactly what we wanted from this meet," assistant coach Burke Bockman said. "This meet was great for those who will be competing next week at the MPSF Championships as well as a solid finish to the indoor season for those who will not be going to Seattle with us."
Alissa Atisme continued her streak of great performance in the sprinting events, setting a new-school record in the 55-meter dash with her preliminary round time of 7.18. In the final round, she placed first with a time of 7.19.
"She has been chasing the school record in the 60-meter all year," Bockman stated about Atisme. "This performance sets her up to run well next week in Seattle."
Freshman Makenzie Clark captured third in the 800 with a time of 2:24.97.
Leading the way for the Utes in the high jump was Kailey Hansen who has redshirted this indoor season. Hansen competed unattatched and cleared a mark of 5 feet, 5 inches to capture second overall. Suzie Vozarova finished eighth, clearing a mark of 4 feet, 11 inches.
On Wednesday, the weight throw featured Aoife Hickey who captured the event title with a throw measuring 58 feet, ¼ inches. Finishing fifth for the Utes was Nikkie Rudder with a throw of 54-11.50 feet followed by Ilse Kaaja in seventh.
In the shot put, freshman Kassie Nagel placed 6th with a throw of 44 feet, 4.75 inches.
The Utes compete next on Feb. 28 at the MPSF Championships in Seattle, Wash.
