SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of Utah women's track and field team wrapped up the first weekend of action during the outdoor season claiming one event title at the Aztec Invitational. Senior Stephanie Jolley led the team with a blazing performance in the 400m hurdles.

"It was a typical first meet today," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "There were some good things and other things that we need to work on. I felt we accomplished what we came here to accomplish. In outdoor track the surface is different and weather that you don't have to worry about in indoor track. So we gave our athletes a good opportunity to gain that experience in a good competition setting."

Coming off an injury plagued indoor season, Jolley caught the spotlight as she won the event title in the 400m hurdles. Jolley clocked a time 1:00.0 to capture the top-spot and the Ute's only event title.

The 800m featured Rosalie Waller capturing third in her heat. Waller posted a time of 2:10.96 earning the fourth overall spot. Sophomore Kendahl Melvin earned fifth in her heat and 16th overall clocking a time of 2:15.24.

In the 400m sophomore Ali Eisenbeiss finished 19th with a time of 56.89 seconds followed by Lauryn McKay in 26th with a 57.76 seconds.

The 4x400m relay also posted a solid performance.  Leading off was Eisenbeiss followed by Jolley and Waller then senior Alyssa Johnson ran the final leg. The group combined for a time of 3:45.98 earning fifth overall.

The throws were capped off by a good day in the javelin. Sophomore Kaitlin Urmston secured ninth place with a throw of 135-04 feet.

"Next week we will head to the Trojan Invitational at the same site that will host the Pac-12 Championships," Kepler said. "It will be a good opportunity to scout out the venue and also some of the competition that we will face in that meet.

The Utes will compete next on Mar. 22 at the Trojan Invitational in Los Angeles, Calif.
