PHOENIX, Ariz.- After recording fouls on her first two throws, junior Anneli Stahl came back on the third toss with a mark of 170-06 feet to lead the Utes in the hammer throw on the first day of the Arizona State Invitational.
“Unfortunately, we had nobody qualify for the finals in the hammer throw,” Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. “It was a little disappointing in terms of our start, but we will try to rectify that tomorrow. The weather forecast is great and we are excited for the opportunity to have some great performances tomorrow.”
In the hammer throw, which was the only event of the day, Stahl led the team finishing 10th overall. Stahl’s first two throws were fouls, but she rebounded on the third and final throw with a mark of 170-06. Finishing second for the Utes and 17th overall was Nikkie Rudder with a mark of 158-02 feet. Destanae Howerton-Davis finished 18th with a throw of 157-02 feet, respectively for the Utes.
The Utes return to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. PST beginning with the pole vault.
