MESA, ARIZ. - The University of Utah sprinters and throwers finished up competition at the Mesa Community College Classic late Friday evening with Sarah Grimm and Josefin Berg once again hitting regional qualifying marks, while Grimm and Breanna Freestone set new personal bests in their respective events.
Grimm hit a new personal best in the hammer with a toss of 194'11" to earn third place in the competition, which ranks third on Utah's All-Time Outdoor Performance List. Previously in the day she had a mark of 187'7" at the Arizona State Sun Angel Classic. Berg improved her mark from the Sun Angel Classic (184'11") to a 185'0" toss at the Mesa Classic for fifth-place overall, also a regional qualifying mark.
Freestone competed in the javelin for a sixth-place finish overall with a distance of 120'12", which is eighth-best on Utah's all-time performance list and her new personal best mark. Chasity Toilolo competed in the shot put for a fifth-place finish with a 43'1" effort. In the discus, Candus Aiello also finished in fifth-place after a 143'0.5" toss.
The sprinters had a good day on the track in the three events that they competed in. Chelsey Kaplar competed in the 400-meter hurdles for a second-place finish with a time of 1:01.69. In the 200-meter dash, Chelsea Shapard crossed the finish line in 25.95 for a third-place finish. The 4x100-meter relay team had a third-place finish with a time of 47.63.
