The Utes wrapped up great weekend at the Beach Invitational.

LONG BEACH, Calif.- Wrapping up three consecutive days of competition, the University of Utah women’s track and field team finished the weekend with a solid performance at the Beach Invitational on Saturday.
“Overall, it was a terrific weekend,” head coach Kyle Kepler said. “Although the main highlights of the weekend were the new school records at the Mt. Sac Relays, all of our athletes that competed showed improvement and steady progress. Things are starting to come together at the right time of the year and it is really exciting.”
Getting the Beach Invitational underway in the 3000-meter steeplechase was true freshman Becky Sarmiento’s 13th-place performance. In her first steeplechase ever, Sarmiento clocked a time of 11:31.75.
The 400-meter hurdles featured three Utes finishing in the top-five. Leading the charge for the Utes was senior Rosalie Waller. Waller crossed the line in 55.30 seconds to finish first in her heat and third overall. Freshman Rhianna Williams recorded a time of 55.81 seconds to capture fourth and Ali Eisenbess followed in fifth-place with a time 55.91.
In the long jump, the Utes were represented by freshman Courtney Jost. Competing in the sixth flight, Jost recorded a jump measuring 18 feet, 3.75 inches to finish fourth in her flight and 12th overall. Jost also placed 12th in the triple jump, jumping 38 feet, 4 inches.
Kailey Hansen competed in the high jump for Utah. Hansen cleared a mark of 5 feet, 5 inches to earn eighth-place.
In the pole vault, Theresa Waybright finished fifth in her heat and 14th overall. Just centimeters away from her lifetime best, Waybright cleared the mark of 12 feet, 6 inches.
The 800-meter run featured two Utes recording new personal records. Sophomore Allison Aafedt finished with a time of 2:13.20 to capture fifth in her section and 44th overall. Nikki Rietz placed first in her section and 46th overall with a time of 2:13.38.
Junior Lauren Mills competed in the 5000-meter invitational for the Utes. Mills crossed the finish line with a time of 17:48.40 to capture 19th overall. In the 5000-meter open, Jessica Sams just missed setting her PR to place fifth overall.
Freshman Christine Van Brocklin competed in the 400-meter hurdles for the second time in two days. Van Brocklin stumbled as she hit the seventh hurdle in the race, but was able to recover as she finished 27th overall with a time of 1:30.90.

Meanwhile at the Mark Faldmo Invitational in Logan, Utah, the Utes recorded several solid performances.
In the long jump, freshman Kayla Taulapapa finished seventh with a jump measuring 17 feet, 2.25 inches.
Makenzie Clark captured ninth-place in the in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:56.81.
In the 100-meter dash, freshman Danielle Perez placed sixth with a time of 12.72 seconds. Perez also competed in the 200, finishing sixth with a time of 25.51 seconds.
The Utes run next at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on April 25th.
