DES MOINES, Iowa- The University of Utah women’s track and field team capped off a great weekend at the Drake Relays. The Utes competed in two events on the final day, including a top-ten finish in the sprint medley.
“Another great weekend,” head coach Kyle Kepler said. “It was great to get some experience at a big-time meet like the Drake Relays. This week, we will try to get through finals and keep everybody moving forward. Hopefully our athletes won’t get overly stressed and take care of business in the classroom.”
Getting the action underway for the Utes was the sprint medley relay team. The relay comprised of Alissa Atisme, Rhianna Williams, Ali Eisenbeiss, and Rosalie Waller clocked a time of 3:53.61 to finish first in their heat and sixth overall.
“Our sprint medley team ran really well,” Kepler said. “We were put in a little bit of a slower heat, which is unlucky, but I still feel like we competed well. I am proud of the way Alissa and Rhianna ran in their first collegiate sprint medley. Ali and Rose ran solid legs, but looked a little bit fatigued from their previous races. Overall, I am happy with the effort they gave.”
Nikki Rietz, Grace Englund, Andrea Chavez, and Susannah Hurst represented the Utes in the distance medley and finished 11th overall with a time of 11:467.85. Hurst anchored the medley and finished her 1600-meter leg with a time of 4:53.
The Utes will compete next at the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas on May 3.
