SALT LAKE CITY- The Utah women’s track and field team will stay close to home this week as it gets set to compete at the Wildcat Indoor Invitational in Ogden, Utah. Throwing competition will be held on Thursday beginning at 2:00 p.m. MT with the women’s shot put.

“This week will be a tune-up meet before to go to the MPSF Championships,” Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. “The throwers will all compete on Thursday and some of our emerging athletes or athletes like Lauryn McKay [returning from injury] that just need another race will compete this week.  It gives those kids a chance to improve and get a bit sharper before we head to the equivalent of our conference championships.”

Getting the meet underway on Thursday, the Utah throws group will compete in the shot put. Candus Ford has led the Utes in the event this season and continues her quest to break the school record 49’ 5” set by Candice Ekberg in 2005. Ford has already posted a throw of 48’ 0” this season.

Following the shot put, the Utah throwers will compete in the weight throw at 3:15 p.m. MT. Seniors Anneli Stahl and Cynthia Sanchez have already put their names in the record books this season. Both have posted throws above 60’ marking the first time in school history that two athletes have accomplished the feat in the same season.

Senior Angela Kaplar is slated to compete in the hurdle events for the Utes. Kaplar, a school-record holder, is looking for one last meet to prepare for the MPSF Championships. Kaplar posted a season-best 8.75 at the Bronco Invitational, and is determined to improve on that time heading into the championship week.

The jumps will feature senior Langley Iverson competing in the high jump. Iverson, an NCAA Championships qualifier, has continued to improve in every meet this season after taking last year off with an injury. Iverson is looking to get back to form and clear the 6’ barrier.

The running and jumping events will be held on Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. MT with the women’s pole vault.

All throwing events on Thursday will be held at the Golden Spike Arena in Ogden, Utah. Events on Saturday will be at the Swenson Multi-Purpose Building in Ogden, Utah.
