SALT LAKE CITY - Conference champions and University of Utah track and field standouts Amanda Feigt and Chelsea Shapard have been named to the All-Mountain West Conference team.

"This is a huge honor for both of them," said head coach Kyle Kepler. "This is a tribute to how hard they worked and how dedicated they were to both their team and to their event.

"This is the first conference title for both of them and each had come-from-behind victories to do it. That gives you an idea of the will, determination and patience that these two student-athletes have."

Both Feigt and Shapard were honored in the wake of their respective championship performances in the heptathlon and 400m hurdles last weekend. Feigt won the heptathlon title after sitting in third place on the first day. Feigt won the crown on 5,328 points.

Shapard is honored after winning the 400m hurdles with a region-qualifying time. She was fourth with a few hundred meters to go and crossed the line first, hurdling her way to a 58.47 effort.

Both Feigt (400m hurdles and long jump) and Shapard (400m hurdles) will compete at the NCAA Regional meet in Eugene, Ore., from May 24-26. In addition to those two, Alyssa Abbott (800m), Susan Atwater (pole vault) and Mandie Rowell (pole vault) all qualified for the regional meet.
