Utah Track and Field Earns 24 Pac-12 All-Academic Awards

SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah track and field team had 24 athletes named to the 2012 Pac-12 All-Academic team Monday, including two who earned first-team distinction. Three more athletes earned second-team status, while 19 others were listed as honorable mention winners.

"We are really proud to have so many student-athletes recognized for their hard work in the classroom," said Utah head coach Kyle Kepler. "Academic success is a point of pride in our program and to have 24 of our athletes honored in our first year in the Pac-12 is tremendous."

Junior Candus Aiello (3.93, Exercise and Sport Science) and sophomore Rosalie Griffin (3.99, Biomedical Engineering) were each named first-team selections. Redshirt senior Alyssa Abbott (3.90, Exercise and Sport Science), senior Alexis Davis (3.86, Pharmacy) and junior Stephanie Jolley (3.79, Occupational Therapy) were all second-team choices.

Earning honorable mention status were seniors Brooke Casagranda, Brianna LeRoy and Lucy Yates. Joining them were juniors Angela Kaplar, Amanda Mergaert, Alanna Nulph, Amanda Pais, Nikkie Rudder, Cynthia Sanchez, Anneli Stahl, Theresa Waybright and sophomores Megan Combe, Destanae Howerton-Davis, Lindsay John, Kayla McMurray, Kendahl Melvin, Katelyn Stringfellow, Suzie Vozarova, Rebekah Winterton.

 

 

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
