LOGAN, Utah - The University of Utah women's cross-country team completed its first meet of the 2013 season in fourth place at the Utah State Aggie Invitational. Sitting their top runners, the Utes were led by the performance of six freshmen making collegiate debuts.
"We need to keep getting better," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "I am disappointed in how conservative we ran. I would rather error on the side of being too aggressive than the other way. It was many of these kid's first collegiate event though, and they will learn the difference between high school and college. There were some good things that came out of this, and we will get back at it next week at our home meet."
Junior Nikki Rietz led the surge for the Utes, capturing 12th posting a five-kilometer time of 19:57.70. Redshirt freshman Alyssa Stetler made her cross-country debut earning 22nd with a time of 20:43.58. Senior Hilary Troutner and sophomore Lauren Mills finished next to each other earning 25th and 26th respectively for the Utes.
The Utes return home next week as they are set to host Utah Open on Sept. 6 at Murray Park in Salt Lake City. The team is slated to run beginning at 3:30 p.m. MT.
