PALO ALTO, Calif. - For the third consecutive year, the Utah women's cross country team finished fourth overall at the six-kilometer Stanford Invitational. Susannah Hurst and Rebekah Winterton led the way, producing two top-five performances.

Leading the Utes was Winterton in third place with a time of 21:22. For the third meet in a row, Hurst finished fourth overall clocking a time of 21:26.

"Rebekah and Susannah ran terrific races moving up throughout the entire race," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "To finish that close to two All-Americans [Jessica Tonn (Stanford) and Aisling Cuffe (Stanford)] is really good."

The third Utah runner to cross the line was Andrea Chavez in 32nd with a time of 22:30. Finishing fourth for the Utes was AuraLea Fain (23:02) in 52nd, followed by Becky Sarmiento (23:20) in 70th place.

"Andrea ran solid, but we know she can do better," Kepler said. "Our third through sixth runners need to do better, we were losing too much ground. They are trying, but mentally we need to do better. We need to get to another level."

Overall, Utah finished fourth place for the third straight season, tallying 110 points. Stanford won the meet with 33 points, followed by Sacramento State (83 points) and LMU in third place with 103 points.

"We have 21 days before we race again, so we will take full advantage as we prepare for the NCAA Pre-National meet," Kepler said.

The Utes will take some time off from competition before returning for the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind. on October 19.
