COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Utah women's cross country team was selected to finish fourth in the 2010 Mountain West Conference Women's Cross Country Preseason poll, voted on by the league's coaches.
Utah gathered 37 points to take fourth place in the poll, three points ahead of fifth-place Air Force (34).
The Utes finished sixth at last season's MWC Championships and went on to garner a 19th-place finish at the 2009 NCAA Mountain Region Cross Country Championships. Amanda Mergaert was the first Ute across the finish line with a time of 22:29.5 for 57th place.
Alyssa Abbott returns to the squad as a redshirt senior. Abbott qualified for the 2008 NCAA Championships and went on to take 76th out of 255 at the national meet.
BYU topped the poll after collecting five first-place votes. New Mexico followed closely, nabbing the four remaining first-place votes and was selected to finish second with 58 points. Colorado State claimed the third spot with 50 points. TCU (29 points) took sixth place, while Wyoming finished seventh (26 points), UNLV (20 points) and San Diego State (9 points) rounded out the final three positions.
