Utes Cross Country head to Brigham Young for BYU Autumn Classic

Sept. 6, 2005

This Week: The Utes head to Brigham Young this weekend for the BYU Autumn Classic, held at the Cascade Golf Course in Provo, Utah, on Sept. 10, 2005.

Meet Preview: BYU is the defending Mountain West Conference Champion. They are the first conference team Utah will face this season.

Last Week: Nicki Hugie led the way as the University of Utah cross country team took third place at the 2.72-mile American West Heritage Center Open on Saturday in Logan, Utah. Utah State won the event on 25 points while Weber State took second on 31 points. Both Utah and Boise State took third in totaling 94 points. Hugie was Utah's top runner as she finished 15th with a time of 16:58. Chelsea DiGrazia and Ashlee Warnick were right behind their teammate in taking 16th and 19th, respectively. DiGrazia raced the course in 16:59 while Warnick turned in a 17:11 effort.

Rounding out the rest of the pack for Utah are: Kellie Anderson (23rd, 17:31); Kristin Taylor (29th, 17:57); Lauren Endersen (30th, 17:59); and Caitlin Zeigle (35th, 18:34). Utah State's Tiffany Strickland won the meet in clocking a 15:36.

Ute Notes: Chelsea DiGrazia ran in her first collegiate-level race last weekend. Other teammates running for their first time are two freshman, Lauren Endersen and Caitlin Zeigle.

Quoting the Coach: "Overall, I like the effort our kids gave last week. We didn't get out at the start, and were playing catch-up the rest of the race. They did a good job of working their way back up through the group of runners, but in a short race we ran out of time to catch up. We'll work on improving that this week at BYU and see how our results change."
