The Utes will compete in the Bobcat Invitational in Bozeman, Mont., this weekend.

Sept. 14, 2004

This Week:
The University of Utah cross country teams will head to Bozeman, Mont., for the MSU Bobcat Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 18. The Bobcats will play host to Utah, Weber State, Idaho State and Montana.

Previewing the Competition:
The Utes will compete against Weber State for the second time this season. Utah had a strong showing against the Wildcats at the Weber State Invitational, but fell short in points. Both teams will get another chance for an upset in Bozeman this weekend.

The Montana State Bobcats return Casey Jermyn to the men's squad. Jermyn was last year's Big Sky Conference individual champion. On the women's side Mayra Morgado, who placed ninth at the Big Sky Championships, will lead MSU.

Quoting Head Coach Brian Appell:
"The teams will be training hard this week," states Appell. "We are hoping for a good effort in Montana. The entire team is looking forward to the upcoming NCAA Pre-National meet."

Previous Meet:
The University of Utah cross country teams competed in the Weber State Invitational on Sat., Sept. 4. The meet featured athletes from Utah, Weber State and Utah Valley State College. Utah's teams captured second-place finishes in both races.

"I was very impressed with the results," states Head Coach Brian Appell. "Our unattached runners did a great job, and will run attached at the next meet. We trained throughout the race, so the entire squad was very tired. Overall, the team is coming along fine."

Utes On The Run:
Sophomore Jennie Haertel had a great race at the Weber State Invitational. Running unattached, Haertel finished seventh overall. If counted, her score would've pulled the Utes within two points of the first-place Wildcats. Haertel will run as part of the Ute squad at the Bobcat invitational and should help the Utes compete for a top-three finish.

Freshman Vance Twitchell was also impressive while running unattached at the Weber State Invitational. The Helena, Mont. native finished 13th overall (21:37) and would have been a top-five performer for the Utes. Twitchell will look to have a big meet in Bozeman this weekend.

Future Meets:
The Utes will compete in the NCAA Pre-National Meet on Sat., Oct. 16, in Terre Haute, Ind.
