FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU Horned Frogs took the first game of a doubleheader from Utah Sunday afternoon, coming from behind to pick up the 6-4 victory.
The game was suspended due to inclement weather in the bottom of the second inning Saturday and resumed on Sunday. The Horned Frogs, who had the bases loaded and one out when play was suspended on Saturday, quickly jumped on top. TCU pushed three runs across in the second inning against Utah reliever Josh Cooper. The runs were charged to Saturday's starting pitcher Chad Cullers.
Trailing 3-0, Utah (0-5) put together a four-run third inning. The Utes loaded the bases on three consecutive singles from Ryder Olsen, John Welsh and Seth Tartler. Ryan Khoury then doubled down the left-field line to push two runs across. Two outs later, Doug Beck stroked a two-out, two-run single to left field, giving Utah a 4-3 advantage.
TCU (2-0) tied things up in the bottom of the fourth. Spencer Jackson reached on an error and later scored on an RBI groundout, knotting the score at 4-4.
Utah threatened in the sixth inning, when Beck led off with a double and advanced to third with one out. But Olsen grounded into a double play, ending the threat. It was the last time the Utes would put a runner in scoring position.
The Horned Frogs regained the lead in the seventh on an Andrew Walker RBI single. TCU took a 6-4 advantage with a single run in the eighth on Chad Huffman RBI double.
Utah reliever Chase Christensen (0-1), who allowed the go-ahead runs suffered the loss. Chad Underwood (1-0) pitched four innings in relief for the Horned Frogs to get the victory. He did not allow a run and struck out two.
The second game of the doubleheader and the third game of the series was slated for later Sunday afternoon.
