COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The University of Utah baseball team played nearly even with undefeated Texas A&M for eight innings Saturday night. But the Ute defense made three errors in the ninth, allowing the Aggies to pull away for a 6-1 victory at the Domino's Aggie Baseball Classic at Olsen Field.

The contest was tied 1-1 after three innings. Texas A&M struck first, scoring a single run in the top of the first off Utah starter Eric King (Jr., Orem, Utah). John Infante singled and later scored on a groundout by Jose Salazar. Utah responded in the third. Shortstop Ryan Khoury (Sr., West Jordan, Utah) was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a single off the bat of Bret Baldwin. Khoury tied the game at 1-1, scoring on a sacrifice fly to left field off the bat of Jay Brossman (Jr., Pullman, Wash.).

The Aggies regained the lead in the fifth. Blake Stouffer led off with a single and later came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Austin Boggs. That was all the offense the A&M pitching staff would need.

Aggie starter Kyle Thebeau allowed one run in 4.0 innings of work. Reliever Matt Ueckert (2-0) picked up the victory, working 2 2/3 innings and allowing one hit, while striking out five Utah batters. Jordan Chambless tossed the final 2 1/3, scattering a pair of hits and picking up his second save.

Utah threatened to tie it in the seventh when Khoury ripped a two-out triple. But pinch hitter Tyler Kmetko flew out to end the threat. Then the wheels came off for the Utes in the ninth. Three Utah errors led to four Texas A&M runs. Only one of the Aggies' ninth-inning tallies was earned.

The Utes put a pair of baserunners on in the ninth, but couldn't push a run across.

Khoury was 3-for-4 with Utah's lone run of the game. King (1-2) suffered the loss, working five innings and allowing two runs on five hits. He struck out two and walked three. Rory James (So., Oshkosh, Wis.) allowed an earned run in the ninth, while Shad McCord (Sr., Layton, Utah) gave up the three unearned runs in the final frame.

Utah falls to 5-6 with the loss. Texas A&M improves to 10-0. The Utes will continue play at in the Domino's Aggie Baseball Classic Sunday, taking on North Carolina-Greensboro at 1 p.m. CST.
