SALT LAKE CITY - Shaun Cooper's ninth-inning home run was the only scoring as the Utah baseball team fell to Utah Valley, 4-1 on Tuesday evening.
Cooper went 2-for-4 to lead the Utes at the plate on the night.
Utah Valley got on board in the third inning after Jake Rickenbach hit an RBI double to right center after Jordy Hart walked. Goose Kallunki's solo home run in the top of the fourth gave the Wolverines a 2-0 lead.
The Utes stranded eight runners on base during the game. In the bottom of the fifth, Gavin Green, Biss Larsen and Tyler Relf hit three-straight two-out singles to load the bases before Connor Eppard flew out to deep center field to end the inning. Utah also left the bases loaded in the seventh inning.
UVU added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh inning, scoring two runs on three hits to take a 4-0 lead.
Utah threw five pitchers, with starter Ben Mordini earning the loss after allowing two runs on three hits over 3 1/3 innings. He had three strikeouts. Kesley Kondo pitched three innings and allowed two runs on two hits. Mitch Watrous, Josh Chapman and Tyler Wagner also threw in the late innings.
Utah Valley was led by two hits each from Rickenbach and Hart. Starter Jeremy Glendlek threw six innings on the mound, allowing no runs on six hits with four strikeouts to pick up his fifth win of the year.
The Utes continue in Pac-12 play this weekend at Washington State. The three-game series begins on Friday, April 13 at 5:30 p.m. PT.
