PULLMAN, Wash. - The Utah baseball team fell 4-2 to Washington State in the second game of the three-game set on Saturday evening.
WSU took advantage of three Utah errors to score two unearned runs on the night.
Utah took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, as Davis led off the game with a single to right field and scored on Bennett's RBI single up the middle.
WSU took advantage of Utah errors in the first and second innings to take a 2-1 lead. An error on a dropped ball led to an RBI single in the first, and a throwing error led to another base runner for an unearned run on an RBI single.
The Cougars increased their lead to 3-1 after back-to-back two-out hits in the fifth inning.
The Utes got a run back in the top of the seventh, cutting the WSU lead to 3-2. Bennett hit a one-out single to right field and Armijo followed with a double to left, and Bennett would score on Hunter Simmons ground out.
Washington State again took a two-run advantage, 4-2, with a run in the bottom of the seventh after a pair of singles in the inning.
Utah and Washington State play the rubber match on Sunday, May 11, at 12:00 PT. The game will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.
