Utah went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth, and Oregon State led off the top of the 10th with Ryan Dunn doubling to the gap in left center. Ryan Barnes was intentionally walked with one out but the Utah pitchers struggled with control and walked the next two batters, sending home the game-winning run. Reliever Tony Vocca got a strikeout and ground out to get out of the inning.

Although Parker Morin hit a deep fly ball to right field that was caught on the warning track and Shaun Cooper hit a single, the Utes were unable to score the equalizer in the bottom of the 10th.

Utah cut into OSU's lead with a run in the bottom of the third after Brooks doubled to lead off the inning before scoring on Morin's sacrifice fly. The Utes scored the equalizer in the fifth inning, as Brooks again led off on a double before scoring on a ground out by Morin. Utah took the 4-3 lead in the sixth inning as Nielsen (who doubled to lead off the frame) and Biss Larsen executed a suicide squeeze to push the runner home.
