With the spring season coming up before we know it, UtahUtes.com will introduce you to the new players on the team in 'Getting to Know.' Today's spotlight is sophomore Zach Jones, who is a transfer from SLCC.
What is your favorite baseball memory?
Realizing I had a chance to play at the U.
What is your favorite sport besides baseball?
What do you like to do when you are not playing baseball?
Wakeboard/wake surf, fish and camp, lift.
Do you have a nickname? How did you get your nickname?
Skip - Dad has always called me and my brothers tons of nicknames...but Skip stuck with me, especially with the coaches.
Why did you choose Utah? What is the best thing about Utah?
Best opportunity for me to excel and get noticed to progress in ball. Great teammates, and a ton of people on campus (never seen anything like it)!
Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why?
Dad, he taught me work ethic and everything I know. `Everyday you're not in training, you're competition is.' But my mom seriously is right next to my dad. You can't just have one influence.
My favorite thing about Salt Lake City is:
Well of course all the things you can do! Then after you can eat a ton of food! Greatest city ever.
What do you like best about Coach Kinneberg?
He's true to his character and word - that's hard to find.
What are your goals for this year?
To win a championship; to be the best that I've ever been.
What are your pregame superstitions?
None, I just like watching the other players get all weird about it. Makes me laugh.
What is your major and what do you want to do after you graduate?
ESS, and I'm not sure. The number one goal is to play pro ball first, of course!
