SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team officially begins team practice for the 2013 season on Friday, Jan. 25.

Team members have been doing individual workouts through the winter. The team will spend three weekends in St. George leading up to the start of the season.

"It will be good to get going full speed and get ready for the season," Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "We're looking forward to getting outside in St. George. I know the guys are anxious to get on dirt and grass. We'll go the next three weekends, so we get six days on the field and some scrimmages before we get going.

"Individual workouts have gone well. We feel like we're in shape and ready to get moving and get ready for Loyola Marymount."

Key returning players for Utah include pitchers Brock Duke, Joe Pond and Mitch Watrous, as well as two-year starting third baseman Trey Nielsen.

Utah opens its 2013 campaign at Loyola Marymount on Feb. 15, 2013.
