SALT LAKE CITY -- The University of Utah baseball team will see its rivals from Provo for the first time this season on Tuesday. The Utes and Cougars will face off at Miller Field in Provo at 6 p.m. in a non-conference tilt.

The matchup between Utah and BYU is the first of five scheduled meetings on the diamond this season.

Utah enters the game with a record of 7-8. Ryan Khoury is the Utes' leading hitter coming into the contest, with a .391 average. Meanwhile, John Welsh is leading Utah in the power numbers with four home runs and 18 RBIs. The Utes split a pair with Southern Utah last weekend.

BYU comes into the contest with a 4-11 mark this year. The Cougars took one of three from UC Riverside last weekend in their last outings.

Utah will be in Salt Lake City for its home opener this weekend. The Utes will face Portland Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Utah will then host New Mexico State on Monday and Tuesday. All five of Utah's games in its opening homestand have been moved to Cate Field at Salt Lake Community College, due to Franklin Covey Field not being playable.
