SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team returns to Salt Lake City this weekend, facing UCLA in a three-game series beginning on Thursday, April 17, at 5:00 p.m. MT, due to the Easter holiday. The series continues on Friday, April 18, at 5:00 p.m. MT, and concludes on Saturday, April 19, at noon MT.
Thursday and Friday's games will both be televised on the Pac-12 Networks with Roxy Bernstein and Kevin Stocker on the call.
Utah will host 'Battle of the Bands' night on Thursday, with all fans in attendance receiving a free air guitar. Local bands will play and compete both pre-game and in-game, with fans using Twitter to vote for a winner. Fans can receive free admission on Friday as part of Utah's 'Black Friday' promotion, with fans wearing black receiving free admission. Utah will host 'Movie Night' on Friday, and fans are invited onto the field for a postgame screening of The Sandlot. The movie will begin immediately following the game. Utah's previously announced fireworks promotion on Friday will not be held.
Utah continues its season-long baseball card promotion, with the first 500 fans on Thursday receiving Cam Gust and Cole Taylor baseball cards. Fans in attendance on Friday will receive Mitch Watrous and TJ Bennett baseball cards with Bret Helton as the featured card on Sunday. The Utes picked up their second Pac-12 win of the season against USC on Friday, defeating the Trojans 3-2 in 13 innings on the arms of Mitch Watrous and Nick Green. Konnor Armijo hit an RBI single in the 13th inning, scoring TJ Bennett for the win. The Utes fell in the bottom of the ninth in game two, 3-2, dropping game three 13-2.
UCLA, winners of the 2013 College World Series, is 19-15 overall this season with a 7-5 Pac-12 record. The Bruins recently dropped two of three to Arizona, and have lost five of their last six games.
"We have another challenging weekend ahead against a good UCLA pitching staff," Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "James Kaprielian is one of the best in the country. We are going to have to meet that challenge this weekend."
