Wagner, Morin Chosen on Second Day of MLB Draft

SALT LAKE CITY - Utah baseball player James Brooks became the third Ute selected during the 2012 Major League Baseball draft on Wednesday, going in the 20th round to the Washington Nationals (624th overall).

Brooks joins Tyler Wagner and Parker Morin, who were selected on the second day of the draft on Tuesday. The Utes last had three players drafted in 2004.

Brooks, a two-year starter at shortstop who was an honorable mention all-Pac-12 selection, hit .304 for the Utes and led the Pac-12 with 21 doubles. He is fifth in the league with 10 home runs and ninth with a .529 slugging percentage. Brooks was also named to the Pac-12 All-Academic team. He was a second-team all-Mountain West Conference pick last year.

Also drafted was Utah signee Connor Williams (Bingham HS), who was chosen in the 36th round as the 1,099th overall pick to the Oakland Athletics.
