SALT LAKE CITY - Utah head baseball coach Bill Kinneberg announced the signing of five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period. Kody Davis (2B, Juan Diego HS, Salt Lake City), Parker Morin (C, College of Southern Idaho, Park City, Utah), Keenyn Walker (CF, Central Arizona CC, Salt Lake City), Tony Vocca (RHP/DH, Yavapai CC, Cottonwood, Ariz.) and Jackson Goulder (RHP/OF, Paradise Valley CC, Cave Creek, Ariz.) will join Utah for the 2012 baseball season.
Davis, Morin and Walker all have Utah roots. Davis is entering his senior season at Juan Diego and was the 3A MVP in 2010. Walker was a three-time all-state selection at Judge who has been drafted twice. He also earned numerous honors for his football accomplishments. Morin was a three-year all-state player at Park City. He was an honorable mention all-region pick at the College of Southern Idaho last year. Vocca was the Arizona 4A Player of the Year as a high school senior and both pitches and hits for Yavapai CC. Goulder is also a two-way player and earned region player of the year honors in high school.
"We are very excited about this signing class," Kinneberg said. "They are all very athletic and fit our immediate needs.
"It's great to have Keenyn and Parker come home after two years of junior college. We want to try to get the best players out of Utah to come here and start the Pac-12 with us. That was a great start to our recruiting process this year."

Juan Diego HS

Kinneberg on Davis: "What attracted us to Kody is not only his speed and athleticism, but he plays the game correctly and he plays so hard. He's a kid that you would love to have on the field wherever he plays."
Named the 2010 3A MVP in Utah by the Deseret News and earned first-team all-state honors from the Salt Lake Tribune ... .539 batting average with a .789 on-base percentage ... 27 stolen bases with 41 hits as a senior ... team captain ... rated the top 2010 prospect in Utah by the Mountain West Baseball Academy ... second-team all-state in 2009, batting .457 ... led Juan Diego to 2009 and 2010 state titles.
Kinneberg on Morin: "Parker will fill a big hole for us with the likely loss of C.J. Cron and Cody Guyman. He has a chance to come right in and be a real productive catcher for us as a left-handed hitter."
Hit .255 with a .992 fielding percentage as a Region 18 honorable mention pick in 2010 with CSI ... was a four-year starter at Park City High School and a three-year all-state player (first-team in 2008 and 2009) ... hit .525 with 21 RBI in 2008.

Kinneberg on Walker: "Keenyn's athleticism, speed, arm strength and defensive ability makes him one of the better baseball athletes in the country."
Drafted out of high school in 2009 in the 16th round (500th overall) by Chicago ... drafted again in 2010 in the 38th round (1,161 overall) by Philadelphia ... hit .299 in 58 games at Central Arizona with 16 RBI and a .435 on-base percentage ... CAC were the Region I DI champions ... a three-time all-state selection at Judge HS ... batted .517 as a senior with 25 RBI and 25 stolen bases ... hit .460 his junior season, stealing 18 bases ... participated in the 2008 USA Baseball Tournament of Stars ... also played football and basketball at Judge ... was a two-time first-team all-state pick in football.
Yavapai CC/Mingus HS
Kinneberg on Vocca: "Tony comes in from Yavapai, which is one of the best junior colleges in the country. He'll be a major contributor for them this year and we expect the same thing here. He has a chance to be a starting pitcher for us next year."
Both pitches and hits for Yavapai CC ... hit in 40 games with a .313 batting average, going 4-for-4 in stolen bases ... 1-0 with one save in 24.6 innings pitched ... 2.55 ERA with 21 K's ... led Mingus HS to consecutive state titles (2008-09) ... two-time first-team all-state ... AZBCA 4A Player of the Year ... 2009 Region MVP ... hit .593 with 60 RBI, 13 doubles, a 1.083 slugging percentage and 10 home runs as a senior ... also went 12-1 with a 2.62 ERA on the mound with 120 strikeouts and just 19 walks in 74.2 innings pitched ... junior year hit .411 with 30 RBI and a .710 slugging percentage, an 11-1 pitching record, a 2.06 ERA and 151 strikeouts ... was the No. 1 pitcher as a freshman ... also an all-state quarterback.
Paradise Valley CC/Central Arizona College/Cactus Shadows HS

Kinneberg on Goulder: "Jackson is a two-way player who will add depth for us on both sides, as a pitcher and a hitter. He will challenge for important innings."
Played in 34 games for Central Arizona as a freshman before transfering to Paradise Valley CC ... .262 batting average with 15 RBI ... first-team all-state as a senior at Cactus Shadows HS ...
