The only blemish was the 72-59 loss to Kentucky in the NCAA Regional Finals in San Jose. The last regular season loss for the Utes was an 87-71 defeat at New Mexico on Feb. 1, 1997.

DOLEAC DOIN' IT: MICHAEL DOLEAC had his first chance to play before his hometown fans in Portland and made the best of it. Doleac

MICHAEL DOLEAC is currently in 20th place on the Ute career scoring list with 1,129 points. He needs 2 points to pass CHAS. MENATTI (1972-76, 1130 points) to move into the 19th spot on the list.

UTES AMONG TOP TEAMS IN THE 90s: Going into the season the Utes were ranked 10th in the country for most victories and highest winning percentage in the decade of the 1990s. Utah has posted a 202-67 record during that time for a .751 winning percentage.

UTES IN 1,000 VICTORY CLUB: The Utes are one of the teams in the country with over 1,000 basketball wins in their history. In the 89 years of Utah basketball, Utah hoop teams have won 1,356 games and have lost just 728. That works out to a .651 winning percentage. Utah first started playing basketball in 1908. '

SCOUTING UWM: The Panthers are 1-8 going into the game with the Utes ... the Panther win was at home over Western Illinois (62-57) on Nov. 22 ... the Utah game will be the fourth home game for UWM this season ... head coach is RIC COBB who has posted a 18-46 record in his third season at UWM ... former Ute assistant KIRK EARLYWINE is a member of the Panther coaching staff ... UWM is coming off a 91-77 loss at Fairleigh Dickinson, Monday night.

RICK'S REMARKS: ON UWM: "The UWM game is a game that I'm appreciative of Ric Cobb and my friendship with him. It's a special game for me to be able to go home and for my mother and my sister and my friends to see my team play. It's a nice opportunity for me to go home for Christmas. It's the first Christmas I've been home in 15 or 16 years. It's nice for my Mom and nice for UWM to play us. I'm giving the players three days off for Christmas and we have to come out and play and get better, because we come out of the UWM game and start the conference. ON THE UTES: "We are playing very well defensively and are rebounding well. We have turnovers but some of those are just our lack of quickness. Some of those are the opposition and some of those are ourselves. Turnovers are a concern right now and our offensive firepower is always going to be a concern. Alex Jensen is shooting the ball but now he has to start making some. We are getting defensive production off our bench but we need to get more offensive production from our bench players in terms of points."

UTE NOTES: Following the UWM game the Utes have two more weeks with just one game a week. Jan 3rd they host Rice in an 8:30 p.m. game in the Huntsman Center and Jan. 10th Utah travels to BYU for the first of two meetings with the in-state rival Cougars ... because the games with Rice on Jan. 3rd and Feb. 7th are the Utes' crossover games they will not count as WAC games this year ... HANNO MOTTOLA became the first Ute to foul out of a game this season when he committed 5 fouls against OSU.
