Director of Player Development Derek Deprey is in his first season on the University of Utah men's basketball staff. He comes to Utah after two years at Marquette University.
Deprey works closely with the director of basketball operations to handle the day-to-day operations of the basketball program. He will assist in the academic and personal development of the student-athletes. In addition to his developmental duties, Deprey will also coordinate video-scouting operations.
Deprey worked with Coach Boylen in 2004-05, when he was an assistant video coordinator for the Milwaukee Bucks. Deprey joined the Bucks in 2001 as the team's video-scouting intern and was promoted to assistant video coordinator before the 2003-04 season. During his tenure with the Bucks, he also took part in preparing opponent scouting reports and free agent/draft prospect personnel reports.
Deprey joined the Marquette staff in 2005 as the Golden Eagles' video coordinator. He was promoted to coordinator of basketball operations before the start of that season. In Deprey's two years at Marquette, the Golden Eagles earned two NCAA Tournament berths. Deprey's duties with Marquette included team travel, equipment, video, film exchange, strength and conditioning and academics.
A native of Manitowoc, Wis., Deprey earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Wisconsin Lutheran College in 2002. He played basketball for both Wisconsin Lutheran and UW-Manitowoc. Deprey earned a master's degree in sports management from the United States Sports Academy in 2005. He graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran High School in 1998. Deprey and his wife Rachel were married in June of 2006.
