SALT LAKE CITY - Junior center Jason Washburn paced the Runnin' Ute offense with a game-high 14 points, but the University of Utah men's basketball team (4-14, 1-5 Pac-12) suffered a 77-51 defeat to Arizona (13-6, 4-2 Pac-12) Thursday at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.

Washburn connected on six of his 12 attempts from the field to go with six rebounds. The Battle Creek, Mich., native has poured in 10 or more points 11 times this season and 22 times over his career. He also climbed the boards for a team-high six rebounds.

Freshman guard Kareem Storey was the second Ute with double figures in points as he totaled 10 points in his fourth career double-figure-point game. Storey also tied for game-high honors after distributing six assists, which was just one shy of tying his career-high mark.

Junior guard Chris Hines contributed nine points and connected on three of his six 3-point attempts.

Junior forward Dijon Farr hit four of his eight shots from the floor for eight points and corralled four rebounds. He also set a new career high with three blocks, the highest single-game total for any Ute this season.

Junior wing Cedric Martin added seven points after a 3-of-6 shooting performance and also grabbed five rebounds. Defensively, he set a new career high with three steals.

Freshman guard Alex Mortensen hit a pair of free throws for his first career points.

The Utes took an early 3-1 lead before an 8-0 Wildcat run gave Arizona a 9-3 lead, but the Utes charged back with six straight to tie game for third time at nine points apiece. Arizona's Nick Johnson responded immediately with a 3-point basket then Martin converted a fast-break lay-in to bring Utah within one, 12-11. Nine straight Wildcat points stretched their lead to 10, 21-11, but the Utes took 11 of the next 13 to pull within one at 23-22. A leaning jump shot by Farr brought Utah within a point once again (27-26), but Arizona then rattled off six of the last eight points of the half to preserve a 33-28 edge heading into the locker room. Martin and Storey led the way with seven points apiece, while both Washburn and Hines chipped in six. The Utes shot 50.0% (11-of-22) from the floor and limited the Wildcats to a 37.5% clip (12-of-32).

Utah cut its deficit to three (35-32) in the beginning of the second half before a 20-2 Arizona stretch gave the Wildcats a 55-34 lead, their largest lead of the contest. Down 60-40, the Utes fought back to within a 60-45 margin with five straight points, but could get no closer as Arizona took a 77-51 victory.

Arizona had four players in double-figures in points, led by 12 apiece from Kyle Fogg and Kevin Parrom.

The Utes host the Arizona State Sun Devils Saturday at 3 p.m.
