Utah Head Coach Larry Krystkowiak

Thoughts on the game

“We got our butts kicked in every phase of the game. It’s the low point for me since I’ve been here. If you want to come watch some football practice, it starts on Tuesday. The one thing that we’re going to do for the rest of the year is play harder because it was embarrassing to just get outplayed physically in every category. You can just tell in a game like this when you don’t run the first play, and they get the first rebound up off the free throw that we’re not where we need to be in order to be competitive.”

On lack of energy

“I have no idea why. But I do know what I can control, and that is to try and find guys that are interested in jumping in, playing harder and being more dialed in.”

On contrast from Washington game to now

“We weren’t physical enough. We weren’t ready to compete and we weren’t mentally locked into what we needed to do. There is a lot of stuff that we can control as coaches.”

Junior Renan Lenz

On losing

“From the beginning we didn’t come ready to play. They were more ready than us, and we didn’t get back at them. We’re the ones on the court and we’re the ones responsible for making the play.”

On his individual effort

“I just found my rhythm during the game. The coaches have been telling me what to do and I try to listen to them as best I can. Today my shots just went in.”

Freshman Justin Seymour

On losing

“I feel like we came out dead. You get down 12-2, it’s hard to come back from. It’s happened so many times when we come out with no energy. It’ s on the people on the court. You control how you come out and play. I you don’t play hard we’ll just keep getting beat like we have been.”

Stanford Head Coach Johnny Dawkins

Overall thoughts:

"I thought everyone was playing well for us at the start of the game and that was very important, how we got off to a great start. We have to give their guys some credit, also Utah didn't play their best game. I've watched a lot of tape on this team and they do a terrific job. I think the combination of us playing well and catching them on one of their games that wasn't their best."

"We had to have a sense of urgency. This was a very important game for us on the road of course. You're still trying to compete for a conference title. We want an opportunity to run that race and this was a very important game for us and our kids approached it that way."

"I thought we were patient offensively. We talked about moving the basketball, sharing it. Those games where we have 10 assists, 11 assists, that's not who we are. We need to move the basketball, move our bodies and take shots. I thought we did a better job at that this game than pretty much any other game we've played this season."

On Chasson Randle:

Our last game was a tough loss and we talked about getting back to our defensive fundamentals and making plays. I thought he really took it to heart. He was chasing everything out and really stepped up defensively and made some plays early and got us going.
