Utah Head Coach Larry Krystkowiak
"I thought that the first half, [Oregon State] having 20 more shots than us was unheard of. And we committed 23 turnovers. They took it took it to us. They are considerably better than their record. They have had some tough, close losses. We just didn't have an answer for their pressure. When you have 13 first-half turnovers, we were fortunate to only be down thirteen at half. I thought for a team to get twenty more shots at the basket than us and we weren't scoring it very well...they definitely sped us up. We had far too many turnovers."
On the first half foul trouble
"We are lean at the point guard position. For Kareem [Storey] to be on the bench definitely hurt us. This is the second consecutive game that [Dijon Farr] got in foul trouble early. That definitely affects our rotations. But I am not sure that one or two players [would change anything] with the way this game went. We weren't ready to deal with the toughness and length. They made it really hard for us. In conjunction with not getting shots and turning the ball over in the first half, they had thirteen offensive rebounds. Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong for us. The first half was the story of the game."
"No disrespect to our players but I thought we played scared. They are a team that recruit to a 1-3-1 trap and are like a shark, when they sense blood they attack. "
Junior center Jason Washburn
"Coach talked about [their pressure] a lot as we reviewed Oregon State. We knew they would bring a lot of pressure. They have a lot of length and athleticism. It is not something that we can simulate in practice. We had trouble executing. We didn't do what we needed to do in that type of pressure to make plays."
Oregon State Head Coach Craig Robinson
"It was like that when I got [to Oregon State], so I completely understand [Utah's] whole rebuilding process and I am sympathetic to that, but we really needed to have a road win, as you know. Both because in this conference it is hard to get them and number two because we had a couple of close losses that we have to make up for, so we can't afford to lose games that are winnable. When you have a lead like we had and let it get cut to eight, we had to make sure we won that game. It's really important to get a win on the road."
"We responded with stops first and then converted them and that's something we haven't been able to do on the road. It was really nice to see the guys execute the game plan fully on the road because we typically do it at home but we've had trouble doing it on the road so it was really nice to see these guys do it."
